Community Leadership Award
It is a great honor to announce that the Turnbow Foundation has been chosen to receive the Pat Tillman Community Leadership Award.
The Community Leadership Award is named in honor of Pat Tillman, the ASU alumnus and Arizona Cardinals football player who was tragically killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan. This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated courage of their convictions and served as excellent role models for youth, and organizations that have exhibited outstanding relationships with the community.

Mesa Community College
Meet Tia B. a full-time student at Mesa Community College and a single mom to 3 year old Kylee. Tia has experienced many personal tragedies over the past year. Her father died suddenly and six months later her husband died in a motorcycle accident. Struggling to make ends meet, Tia realized that a college education was the way to achieve financially stability. Despite her personal tragedies Tia maintains a 3.0 GPA and education is her number one goal. She plans to get her AA degree at Mesa Community College and then earn her bachelor's degree at Ottawa University. "Since my husband's death it has been a financial struggle to return to college, but with your scholarship it's been a little easier on my daughter and I."

Save the Family
The average age of a homeless person is 9 years old. Yet as we all know, it's adult's problems, not children's issues that put them on the street.
Save the Family's mission is to help children in homeless families by treating the whole family with programs to break the negative cycles of poverty, abuse and homelessness. They strengthen the Valley's communities by facilitating the transition of families to financial and emotional self-sufficiency.

Supplies for Success
This years Supplies for Success backpack and school supplies fundraiser exceeded our expectations. Our original goal was 100 backpacks, however, due to overwhelming support from our community, we were able to donate 150 backpacks to homeless children.
Armed with volunteers from Soroptimist International of Mesa, 150 backpacks were stuffed with school supplies. Then on July 30th the backpacks were donated to Save the Family just in time for their Back to School Bash on August 3rd, 2007. A BIG Thank You to those who sponsored a backpack: Your generosity will make a difference in the life of a child! We would also like to extend a special Thank You to the employees of Mediserve for there support and sponsorship of 83 backpacks. We appreciate your community spirit.
Single Moms Network
The Turnbow Foundation in partnership with Helping Hand for Single Moms launched the first Single Moms Network on the Mesa Community College campus Saturday May 5th 2007. This was an exciting day for the moms as they were able to network with other single moms, make friends and listen to our guest speaker talk about her struggles and successes as a single mom. Our next meeting in June was a success as well; we had 7 new moms join our club! There were two guest speakers who talked about self empowerment and how to manage stress as a single parent.
